Greetings old friends!
Robert Jenkins, Chris Stafford, Peter Tasker and I have recently had discussions about the formation of a Toronto Scottish RFC Alumni group.
The initial purpose of this group is to communicate important Scottish news to former members who are not currently signed up with the Club, providing them with match schedules and encouraging them to attend Club matches and other events. During the playing season, we hope to e-mail a weekly newsletter that contains game results, league standings, up-coming matches, planned social events, and news about the Alumni and what they are up to.
The Alumni will include former playing and social members of the Club and any other long-in-the-tooth rugby enthusiasts who would like to become associated with the Scottish through an old boys network. How the Alumni is organized; if it does any more than attend Scottish games; what it may hope to accomplish in the broader Club picture; and how the Alumni would like to support the other sections of the Scottish; all will be determined once there are enough numbers to call a meeting to discuss these matters.
I have accepted the task of developing a mailing list of potential Alumni members. I will also put together an initial Alumni e-newsletter. I know that some of our old boys do not have access the internet so it is important to get postal addresses for everybody so a hardcopy version of the newsletter can be mailed to those who need it.
The distribution list is currently made up of a list of about 85 e-mail addresses that Chris Stafford has been maintaining for many years. There are almost 2000 players named in the 50th (2003) Anniversary Booklet so his list is known to be far from complete. This e-mail is our first attempt at trying to get all of our old boys set up on an Alumni mailing list.
Click here to access an information sheet that we ask you to complete and return it to me at the email address below. It would also be appreciated if you would identify any other Scottish alumni, at least with an e-mail address or a phone number or a postal address. One of us will try to contact them. Or if you have old mailing lists that you can share with us, it would help a lot.
I will keep you up-to-date on how the formation of the Alumni group is progressing. After we get better organized, I expect a more structured newsletter will be produced.
Thanks and I hope we can all get together before too long.
Best regards,
John Wlaiko
